Montezuma’s FREE Nature Storytime Event for Summer 2018
Recently we found out that the Montezuma Wildlife Refugee does a summer nature story time every Friday during the summer. It is free for everyone, children in pre-K through 3rd grade. Not only do they do nature-themed children’s story time but you also get to do a short craft and go for a nature walk. The guide reads the chosen story in the sun room where you can see the marsh land behind the visitor center. We even got to see some geese fly by during the reading. All of the kids enjoyed that!
Topics will include things like birds (nesting, waterfowl, birds of prey), wildflowers and pollinators (bees, butterflies, bats), dragonflies, turtles, fox and other mammals.
Parents are required to stay with their children during the program. You should come prepared with sunscreen, insect repellent, and sturdy shoes for exploring outside!
After story time we go to participate in the craft to accompany the story. We created some dragon flies out of sticks, leaves and googly eyes!
After completely the craft the guide takes you down the paved or stone pathways. On our walk we got to see some different butterflies, damsel flies, dragon flies, and even spotted some caterpillars! We saw some dragon fly wings on the path way too. We stopped by the canal where they had a floating dock and were able to see some sunfish in the water and then a snake when we walked up the pathway to continue our walk. There was a nice Eagle next on one of the power line towers nice and close to the pathway so we were able to get a nice view of them. I know my girls had a lot of fun.
