Ditching Cable TV

Ditching Cable / Dish TV Saved us a lot of Money

I think many of us get very addicted to watching our favorite shows. We all have our favorites. I personally love watching Law & Order SVU, Once Upon a Time, NCIS and many more. For a long time my husband and I talked about wanting to get rid of our dish tv network. The bill just became so pricey each month. I really felt like the money we were spending was not justified. We watched a lot of tv especially in the winter and an episode before bed. Could we do with out it?

I know I loved watching the newest episodes of my favorite shows and being able to record them and watch later. And boy was it convenient to record some family movies or shows for the kids to watch when they wanted to. I really liked being able to fast forward through the commercials. I can’t stand them ask my husband he will tell you how nuts I am over commercials.

Ditching Cable Dish TV Saved Us A Lot Of Money

So last year we finally made the plunge. But not before first making sure I could still watch my shows as I was not willing to give that up! I was so happy to find there were other ways I could still watch our favorite shows. Most of all I was afraid the kids would miss their routine morning cartoons.

I was so relieved after we made the switch. We all could still watch our favorite shows and pay a fraction of the cost it was for us to watch paying near $200 a month for dish. Here are the programs we use now for every day tv.

First we bought an Amazon Fire TV Stick. You can also buy the Roku from Walmart as well. We actually now have both. They allow you to get great features like an easy-to-use remote, simple navigation, and unbiased search across top channels. You can add a lot of free app channels (that’s what we have done). We have even paid for a couple and you know what in the end it still cost way less this way! My kids love the PBS channel and the National Geographic channel as well.

Netflix

This one was probably everyone’s first thought, right? Sign up for a subscription of Netflix. Well that is what we just did. You can get your first month free then after that is starts our being $7.99 a month, and you can choose from three different packages. The highest costing $11.99 per month. You can cancel anytime you wish. The best part about Netflix is that you can use it on any device not just a TV because it is an app. We put it on the kids computers sometimes and other times I like to watch on my phone in bed with headphones.

Tv

Hulu TV

The other one we signed up for was Hulu TV. Hulu TV is great because you can watch new & exclusive series on your favorite device. If you want Limited Commercials the cost would be $7.99 a month. Or you can do what we did and sign up for No Commercials for $11.99 a month.

So over all we pay $19.98 for Netflix and Hulu TV together per month. Eve when you add in the small fees of about $4.99 a month for the PBS channel it still works out to be a lot less then having a cable bill or dish tv. You really can’t go wrong here!

We want to know! Do you have cable or dish tv? Have you made the switch yet?
