How to Save Money on Gifts
When I am out shopping I am always keeping my eyes peeled for items marked down. Whether it’s a the grocery store or when I’m looking for clothes. I am always thinking about gift ideas for all occasions. Here are some of my tips to help you save money on gifts for your loved ones and others.
Shop Year Round
Don’t wait till the last minute to grab a Christmas gift or Birthday gift! Many times you can find some great low prices on items while you are shopping on items that could be potential gifts. Sometimes I may spot a clearanced item of clothing so I pick it up if it’s with in my budget range and pack it away for my child’s birthday or even Christmas. I see things all the time marked down. Chances are if you wait till December to do all your shopping you may not be saving as much as you could.
Create a Gift Box or Closet
Make a special area in your house just for gifts. This could be a big box, bin, or even a closet. I have all the above! LOL. But, I shop for all of you too 😉 (Giveaways!). Having a spot where you can pack away gifts you buy year round really helps! This way when you purchase items you won’t loose them or forget about them. When time comes and you need a gift (this works especially well for children’s birthday parties) you can go pick on out of your gift closet! You not only have saved yourself some money, but time as well!
Save Gift Wrapping and Bags
It may sound silly to most, but I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. And who do you think I got this idea from? My mother, of course! When you have a birthday or special event more than likely people bring you gifts and have them in some pretty bags. Save those bags and the tissue paper if you can! Add this into your gift closet! Its saves you money and it’s recycling!
Make Your Own
Of course! Making your own gifts can save you a lot of money. Some of my favorites include gifts in a jar (use mason jars, etc), soaps, and goody baskets. Look around your house. Sometimes the best gifts are the ones that are created from you! Think about sewing some cute pillows, creating some wall art, let your self get creative!
I love saving up my Swagbucks and Ibotta cash back for holiday shopping. Nothing beats shopping for free.
My mom always had gifts in her closet for last minute giving. She always had the coolest stuff that she had collected on sale!
Great tips! I do all of these. Plus I like to shop at places like Ross, Marshalls, etc. where you can get great gifts for really cheap.
When I was a kid my mom would shop all year round. Now as a mom I totally understand why. I think it is an awesome tip. I also save all my gift wrapping bags and resuse them. Great ideas!
Thanks! Glad to hear I’m not the only one who saves the gift bags to re use! I know many laugh at me for doing it.
